The local certified public accounting firm of GHD CPAs and Advisors is pleased to announce Tom Beard, CPA, ABV, CFE, CMPE, MSF, Cathy Lorenz, CPA, MST and Kathy Walsh, CPA, JD are 2012 winners of the Five Star Wealth Manager Award. Lorenz and Walsh were also award winners in 2011. This is Beard’s third year in row in winning the award. In addition, Copper Beach Wealth Management, a sub-advisor to GHD Wealth Management, recognizes Bill Brown, ChFC, CLU, CFS as a 2012 winner. Brown was also an award recipient in 2011.
To find this year’s winners, HOUR Detroit, DBusiness magazine and Five Star Professional partnered up to find wealth managers who provide quality service to their clients. The 2012 Five Star Wealth Managers are a select group, representing less than 7 percent of the wealth managers in the Detroit area. They are identified by one of three sources: firm nomination, peer nomination or pre-qualification based on industry standing. The 2012 candidates were also recognized using internal and external research data, including surveys to more than 3,000 registered financial services professionals and all identified financial service companies in the area that registered with FINRA or the SEC.
Beard began his career at GHD in 1985, right after graduating from Walsh College with a Bachelor of Accountancy degree. He also has his Master of Science degree in Finance with an emphasis in Taxation. As Chairman of the firm, he works with clients to find solutions to their most challenging financial and operational problems. Beard is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA), American College of Certified Medical Practice Executives, and the National Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
Lorenz joined the firm in 1997. As partner and CFO, she provides tax assistance to U.S. closely held business estates and trusts. She received her Master of Science degree from Walsh College and her Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University. Lorenz is also a member of the AICPA and MACPA.
As a partner, Walsh is responsible for tax planning, research and business consulting. She specifically works with real estate companies, medical practices and small businesses. Walsh’s professional memberships include the AICPA, MACPA, Michigan Bar Association, Marygrove College Alumni Association and the University of Detroit Alumni Association.
Brown founded Copper Beech Wealth Management in 2009. He provides financial planning and wealth management services to high net worth individuals by combining complex and sophisticated planning techniques in an understandable and individualized format. Brown has also worked with clients on portfolio management, complex estate planning and retirement income solutions. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Michigan and is a member of the American Society of Financial Services Professionals.
